AMAX Engineering Corp. (Fremont, Calif.)

AMAX was one of the more successful manufacturers of low-end PC clones. The company was formed in 1980 as a distributor of electronic components. It did not begin producing PCs until 1984. By 1988, it was shipping about 5,000 units a month.
